I watched the first episode of So You Think You Can Dance. And I was blown away.
My only experience with dance is in the area of ballroom dancing. I knew, of course, that there were other forms out there but hadn’t really seen them much. And I hadn’t watched SYTYCD before.
Now I understand what people are raving about.
One thing I liked about it is that they don’t (at least they didn’t in this episode) show the really bad people. I hate it when American Idol does that. Yes these people might be terrible singers, but this is also their dream. And you’re laughing at them. So wrong. But SYTYCD didn’t do that, which was great.
While I was watching, I finished a cowl that I was making as a Christmas present for a friend of mine. Although I might make one in green for her and keep this one for myself. It turned out better than I thought. It seemed way big in the directions, and it is kinda big, but it wraps around my neck and shoulders nicely.
So here’s my problem with SYTYCD: I can only watch it online. I’m not home on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, so I can’t watch it as it’s broadcast. And Fox doesn’t put their episodes online immediately. So I can’t watch anymore episodes for a while! Grrr. Unless someone has any brilliant ideas? No, I don’t own a DVR, so that’s not an option.
I’ll keep posting on the yarn along when I can. It just depends on when I’m able to watch episodes!
Last week, I…
*Lost 3 pounds! Well, not in one week. More like three weeks. But still. I had my weigh-in last week, and I was down 3 pounds. Woo hoo!
*Had a forced day off. Sweet! Forced to take the day off so I didn’t lose the vacation time, not because of disciplinary reasons. Just to clarify.
*Finished loading next year’s budgets into our financial system at work. You’re envious of my job, aren’t you?
*Danced. And did a dance demo at a practice party. Tango. It had a lot of power in it. (That’s a good thing.) It was BROUGHT. Even if I do say so myself.
*Branched out from baking. Made an awesome pasta dish. Bazinga.
*Had breakfast with my niece LB who just graduated high school. I’m proud of you, chickie. You’ve become an amazing woman. Can’t wait to see where you go in life.
*Decided to join a yarn along. And watch SYTYCD. They relate. Honestly they do.
*Went to the gym twice and a long bike ride once. Wait a minute…I’m starting to LIKE exercising? What the…when did I become that person?
Have you heard of yarn alongs? The point of a yarn along is to blog about a knitting project you’re working on as well as a book you’re all reading. Sort of a virtual book club with knitting.
Anyhoo, I’ve never done one of these. But my friend CD over at All She Wants To Do Is is starting one for the newest season of “So You Think You Can Dance”. I love reading her blog for various reasons. One, she’s funny. Two, we have hobbies in common: dancing and knitting (although I’m more dancing and she’s more knitting). Three, she’s funny. I’ve never done a yarn along but I thought it sounded fun and a good way to enjoy SYTYCD, so I’m in!
Confession: I’ve never watched SYTYCD. As much as I love dancing, I’m never home on the nights it airs. But with my new job, I’m able to watch things over lunch. (I never had much time for lunch in my old job.) So I’ll be able to watch it online and blog about it with others. I’ve always wanted to watch it because I’ve heard it’s great, and even people who don’t like dancing think it’s amazing.
The rules for this one are to write a post each week in which you share:
- A fiber arts project you are currently working on. Perhaps something you work on while watching the show. (It doesn’t have to be a dance related project.)
- Your favorite dance moment(s) from a recent episode. Please also feel free to share the music you really liked, how awesome you think the choreographers are, etc.
- Do you have a dance background of any kind? Share your perspective.
- Share your insights about the intersections between fiber art and dance. Assuming you can find one.
- Anything else that happens to inspire you.
So watch for my weekly posts on this. I have a feeling that while CD will be doing one project for each episode (she’s such a fast knitter), I’ll be working on the same damn project the whole season. But that really doesn’t matter.
Time to go watch an episode of SYTYCD.
